For the first and the last time in 2010, to taste the Mont Blabc in Brussels: they bake it only in November.
In Japan, Mont Blanc is served all year.
Belgians are not mad about this cake...

This ones came from the Wittamer's, with some fresh cream and surprising pieces of pinapples, sitting inside crispy biscuit tarts.

My daughter and I have been always fan of the chesnuts, we steam-grilled them in the oven this year, as well as buying them grilled from the short lived stands in the streets of the city centre.

As row chesnuts are avalable only in November in Brussels, I have a good alternative but in reality nothing to do with a real chesnut: The Chesnut Tea.

It was when I was a student in the Royal College of Music in London, my friend Fujio had prepared me my first cup of so-called 'Royal Milk Tea'.
To prepare it : boil the full fat milk in the sauce pan, put a handful of good Earl-Grey tea leaves, wait a little and strain it.

'But it taste chesnuts?!'

And I became a good consumer of it, and we called it always 'the chesnut tea' since then, even when I got to move in Belgium and serve it here.

As a result, my daughter confessed to me only recently that she always believed that the tea contained some chesnuts inside026.gif
Oops but hasn't she ever seen me preparing it....?

Now that November's gone, we must face the eleven months without chesnuts but fool our tongues with the Chesnut Tea...
